Booked a couple nights at the Tuanis Aparthotel after reading the security guard is cool so long as you're quiet(which I am). Can anyone confirm or share? I'm running out of time if I need to switch my lodging! Thanks!!

Tuanis is a tiny little hotel with a small pool and no restaurant. Some of the rooms are very nice. It's a small operation run by a Gringo and his Tica wife. They also have a couple of maids on staff and contract with a security company to keep the place safe at night. It's located on the very South end of Pastor in Jacó. Here's my personal take on the place...

The Gringo who owns and runs the joint is a not-quite-middle-aged Surf Dog who found his own slice of Paradise in Costa Rica, and decided to open a hotel here. He's a bit moody, and is one of those guys who actually managed to find his niche and make the hotel work. However, he rarely seems happy about it. You can definitely tell that he would rather be out surfing than tending to his hotel, and you can definitely tell that his wife married a Gringo and thought that she would be set for life... rather than tending shop behind the reception desk of a hotel. They are pleasant enough, but their hearts are not in it. Lately, they've been getting most of their business from Europe, via online "BnB" type websites, and really couldn't care less if they ever see another Gringo. The place is "Chica Friendly", in the sense that the owners really don't care, and the security guys will let you bring a girl in, if you slip 'em a Fiver.

This thread reminds me of another story that I like to tell...

First of all... You have to understand that Prostitution is legal, and always has been legal, in Costa Rica. Ticos see Gringos come down here like it's some kind of Male Disneyland, and they just don't get what the big deal is. But... the Ticos figure... "Whatever."

I showed up at a large resort near Manuel Antonio with a carload of people and bags. I was renting a villa for 7 nights, as a part of my job. I do that a lot. However, on this particular occasion, I was with my girlfriend, my two "nieces" (daughters of my girlfriend's sister), and one of their friends. In other words, it was me, driving an SUV, with 4 hot chicks, one of whom is a former all-star bartender at the Hotel Del Rey (HDR). I seriously didn't think much of it, until I pulled up to the guard shack at the resort. My girlfriend immediately started chattering away in Spanish, but the guard was far too busy ogling the girls inside my car to understand what she was saying. After about 20 seconds, I said, "Hey! Focus!"... and the guard finally came to his senses. 5 minutes later, we were being escorted into the villa.

No matter what I did for the rest of that week... nobody believed that I wasn't having a sex orgy with all four of those girls. What's even sadder is that it was TRUE... I was only having sex with one of those girls -- my girlfriend. But... Guys... I can assure you that you can't BUY that kind of karma and status. That was a very interesting week. That kind of "Entourage" opens a lot of doors.
