Good sushi is pretty hard to find in Costa Rica. Not for the lack of fresh seafood, but for the lack of culinary skill and market for a higher priced cuisine. Here in Jaco Beach’s central tourist strip, an excellent option exists for those looking for fresh sushi professionally prepared. With a variety of delicious and creative items available on the menu, this restaurant offers something in most price ranges. It’s still sushi, so it’s going to cost a little more than average, but it is surprisingly reasonable.

I’ve tried many of the rolls on this menu, and stuffed myself with sashimi on other visits. The staff is friendly and eager to please. The service is usually pretty fast to address whatever needs a guest may have.

Tsunami was opened several years ago by a pair of California restrantuers looking to take their skills to a place they could enjoy year round surf and the casual beach life. Open only for dinner, Tsunami does a great job of sourcing only the freshest fish, and providing an authentic experience for those who love great sushi.

If you looked around from the inside, you would never know you were not in an upscale sushi place in LA or San Francisco. The standards held by the Tsunami management and staff are worthy of praise.

There are two bars and many seating options for groups of any size, the sports bar serves cocktails and normally has the current sporting even showing. The window tables offer a view of the Jaco strip for those looking to people watch while they enjoy a nice dinner.
There are special promotional nights. Tuesday is half priced tuna, Wednesday and Friday s are half price rolls nights. Making Tsunami the best bet in town for those looking for great sushi.
